US Violations of Rights of Latin American Nations

The United States continues its policy of violating the rights of Latin American nations, where a process of integration is taking place.

On the occasion of the next presentation at the UN of a new resolution against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, the deployment of US military bases in the region is a major concern.

There are many multinational forums in Latin America, like the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, which show the integration processes in the area, something that the US is averse to.

The Obama Administration should take into account the existence of countries with independent positions in the region.

Obama implements a different kind of policy in Latin America, with positions adopted in different meetings this year; but, actually,US relations with the region are characterized by the violation of the rights of nations in the hemisphere.

The military bases opened by the Pentagon in the region, like the ones it will place in Colombia and other nations, which the US claims will be used to combat drug trafficking and other scourges, is another strategic strike of the US empire.

The reinforcement of the US military presence in this area is a continuation of George W. Bush’s doctrine: take by force what you can’t control by way of political methods.

The true intentions of the United States came to light in the face of the opening of military bases in Colombia or with what happened in Honduras, where a regime of coup perpetrators removed legitimate president Jose Manuel Zelaya from power without receiving a categorical rejection from the White House.
